Founder's Bio
Hello
My name is David Young, founder of Kestrel Aviation Training Academy. I created this academy out of a passion for aviation, education, and developing the next generation of disciplined and capable aviation professionals.
Through my years of experience in aviation operations, leadership, and technical instruction, I have seen firsthand how important strong training and ethical leadership are in the aviation industry. KATA was established to provide structured aviation education that prepares students not only with technical knowledge but also with the discipline and integrity required in this field.
Whether students are just beginning their journey into aviation or looking to expand their professional skills, my goal is to help them build a strong foundation for success.
My Story
My journey into aviation began during my service in the United States Navy, where I worked closely with aircraft maintenance operations, aviation safety programs, and leadership within the aviation community. Those experiences instilled in me a deep respect for the discipline, accountability, and teamwork required to operate safely in the aviation environment.
After my naval service, I continued my passion for mentorship and education by working with students and developing learning opportunities that introduce young people to aviation and emerging technologies such as unmanned aircraft systems. Through teaching and leadership roles, I saw firsthand how exposure to aviation can inspire students and open doors to meaningful careers.
Kestrel Aviation Training Academy was created out of that passion—to build a place where students can gain practical aviation knowledge, develop discipline and confidence, and begin their journey into the aviation industry. My goal is to help equip the next generation with both the technical skills and the character needed to succeed in aviation.
Aviation & Education Experience
David Young brings a combination of operational aviation experience and educational leadership to the academy. His background includes roles supporting aircraft maintenance operations, aviation safety programs, and technical training environments within naval aviation.
Throughout his career he has worked in multiple areas of aviation operations including:
• Aviation maintenance leadership
• Aircraft systems and maintenance oversight
• Aviation safety and quality assurance programs
• Aviation logistics and operational support
• Technical training and curriculum development
In addition to his aviation background, David has extensive experience in education and mentorship, working directly with students to develop structured learning programs focused on aviation and unmanned aircraft systems.
This blend of aviation experience and teaching has shaped the training approach used at Kestrel Aviation Training Academy.

Kestrel Aviation Training Academy is rooted in principles of integrity, discipline, and service shaped by the Christian faith. For David, faith has played a central role in shaping both his personal life and his approach to leadership.
He believes that aviation demands a high level of responsibility and trust, and that strong character is essential for those entering the field. The academy seeks to reflect these values through humility, service to others, and a commitment to excellence in training.
While students from all backgrounds are welcome at KATA, the foundation of the academy is guided by a desire to honor God through the work being done and the lives being impacted.
